DAY 01: ARRIVAL IN BHUTAN

Your adventure begins as you arrive at Paro, the sole international airport in this majestic kingdom. Prepare to be mesmerized by the awe-inspiring views of the towering Himalayas during your flight. As you descend into the Paro valley, the silvery Paro River, adorned with the Paro Dzong and Ta Dzong, greets you.

Upon arrival, your guide will warmly greet you and accompany you on a scenic one-hour drive to Thimphu, the captivating capital of Bhutan. Perched at an elevation of 2,320 MASL, this vibrant city beautifully blends traditional Bhutanese art, architecture, and culture with modern urbanization. Experience the unique charm of Thimphu as you explore its lively streets and immerse yourself in the harmonious fusion of old and new. Discover historic landmarks, engage with friendly locals, and witness the rich traditions that make Thimphu a truly unforgettable destination. Interestingly, Thimphu is the only national capital in the world without traffic lights!

En route to Thimphu, you will visit the Tachog Lhakhang, a remarkable temple built by the visionary engineer Thangtong Gyalpo. Marvel at the reconstructed iron bridge, a testament to his pioneering suspension bridge construction in Bhutan and Tibet.

Arriving in Thimphu, you will check in to your luxurious hotel and have some time to relax. In the afternoon, your exploration of the city begins with a visit to the National Memorial Chorten. This revered landmark, built in memory of the third King of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, is a hub of worship for Thimphu residents and visitors alike. Next, you will proceed to the magnificent Buddha Dordenma, an imposing statue of Shakyamuni Buddha. Standing at an impressive height of 51.5 meters (169 feet), adorned with over 100,000 smaller Buddha statues, it fulfills an ancient prophecy and symbolizes peace and happiness.

The day concludes with a visit to the Farmers’ Weekend Market, a vibrant hub of commerce and socializing. DAY 02: THIMPHU CULTURAL PURSUIT

Embark on a memorable day in Thimphu, beginning with a short hike to Tango Goemba. This revered monastery, founded in the 12th century, is a haven for Buddhist scholars and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

Return to the hotel for a delicious lunch, followed by a visit to the National Institute for Zorig Chusum. This prestigious institute imparts training in the 13 traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan, playing a vital role in preserving and promoting the country’s cultural heritage.

Continue your exploration with a visit to the Royal Textile Academy, a center dedicated to conserving and restoring Bhutan’s weaving traditions. Admire the intricate artistry and vibrant colors displayed in the textiles, and gain insights into the significance of this craft. If time permits, you will have the opportunity to visit the Jungshi paper making factory. Discover the ancient craft of papermaking using natural materials, and create a unique souvenir to take home.

The day’s itinerary also includes a visit to Tashichho Dzong, an architectural masterpiece known as the “Fortress of the Glorious Religion.” Marvel at its grandeur and immerse yourself in the serene surroundings as you explore this important seat of power and spirituality.

DAY 03: JOURNEY TO THE GALCIER VALLEY OF PHOBJIKHA

After a delectable breakfast, embark on a picturesque journey to the Phobjikha Valley, a haven of natural beauty and tranquility. Enjoy a scenic drive, crossing the breathtaking Dochu La pass at an elevation of 3,140 meters (10,301 feet). Pause to admire the 108 stupas that honor the fallen Bhutanese soldiers, standing as a testament to their bravery.

As you descend towards the valley, be enchanted by the changing vegetation, from dense forests to the unique high-altitude dwarf bamboo. Phobjikha Valley, with its U-shaped glacial formation, is not only a visual feast but also serves as a winter home to the endangered black-necked cranes, which migrate from the Tibetan plateau.

Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and savor a delightful lunch while soaking in the captivating views of the Gangtey Valley. In the afternoon, visit the Gangtey Goemba, a monastery perched on a hilltop. DAY 05: DRIVE TO THE GOLDEN PUNAKHA VALLEY

After a leisurely breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Punakha, a historic town nestled amidst the verdant valleys of Bhutan. Marvel at the stunning landscapes as you journey through the picturesque countryside.

En route, make a stop at Chimi Lhakhang, a temple dedicated to the legendary figure Lama Drukpa Kuenley, also known as the “Divine Madman.” Explore this temple known for its association with fertility and blessings, as locals visit to seek blessings for children and newborns. Continue your drive to Punakha and check in to your hotel. Enjoy a delectable lunch and take some time to relax.

In the afternoon, visit the Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most magnificent architectural wonders. Admire the imposing white walls and intricate details of this fortress, which has served as the seat of government and holds great historical significance. DAY 06: EXPLORE THE CULTURAL GEMS OF PUNAKHA

Start your day with an early morning hike to the Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten. Enjoy a refreshing walk to this three-story lhakhang, marveling at its architectural beauty and panoramic views of the valley. Take a moment to participate in a Tshewang ceremony, offering prayers for personal empowerment and a healthy life.

After the visit, embark on a scenic hike to Giligang, passing through vibrant temples, terraced rice paddies, and lush forests. Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the surroundings, with breathtaking views at every turn. Your car will pick you up near Changyul Bridge before reaching Punakha Dzong. Or you can choose to embrace the tranquility of this blissful retreat and fully immerse in its soothing embrace.

In the afternoon, visit the Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang Nunnery, a place of spiritual serenity nestled among the pine trees. Admire the magnificent bronze statue of Avalokiteshvara and explore the temple complex, which also serves as a center for higher learning and vocational training for nuns.

Participate in a Tshewang ceremony, lighting butter lamps and immersing yourself in the peaceful ambiance of the nunnery.

DAY 07: JOURNEY TO PARO

DAY 08: TAKTSHANG HIKE AND CULTURAL IMMERSION

Embark on a memorable early morning excursion to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, also known as Tiger’s Nest. Perched on a cliff at 2,950 meters (9,678 feet), this legendary monastery is a symbol of Bhutan’s spiritual heritage. The iconic landmark awaits you through a thrilling four-hour hike through lush pine forests, unveiling awe-inspiring views of the monastery and the landscape. Uncover the legends of Guru Rinpoche’s miraculous arrival on a tigress’ back, bestowing the monastery its name.

DAY 09: DAY EXCURSION TO HAA VALLEY

On the way, make a stop at Chele La, one of the highest motorable passes in Bhutan, offering breathtaking views of Mt Jhomolhari, Mt Jichu Drake, and the majestic Mt Kanchenjunga. Take in the beauty of the rhododendron-filled forests and the fluttering prayer flags that adorn the pass.

Continue your journey to Haa Valley, known for its picturesque landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Explore Lhakhang Karpo (the White Temple), the main seat of Haa’s guardian deity, Ap Chhundu. Learn about the fascinating legends associated with this temple and admire its ancient statues and architectural beauty.

Next, visit Lhakhang Nagpo (the Black Temple), founded by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century. Discover the history behind its unique location and pay homage to the ancient statue of Jowo Sakyamuni.
